Nestled gracefully between Thrissur and Kozhikode, Cosmopolitan Club Manjeri stands as a beacon of camaraderie, culture, and continuity. With roots tracing back nearly two centuries, the club embodies a legacy that began during the British colonial era, when the concept of social recreation was still in its infancy in our region. Today, it thrives as a vibrant institution that blends tradition with modernity, offering a dignified space for fellowship, sports, and community enrichment.
The earliest traces of the club date to the pre-independence period, when a modest Tennis Club was established within the premises of the local Court. It was the only such facility in the area at the time, serving as a gathering point for British officials and select Indian dignitaries. This humble beginning laid the foundation for what would evolve into a vibrant institution of social and cultural significance.
In 1945, a visionary group of eminent personalities from Manjeri, including advocates, doctors, and members of the business community, came together to formalize their shared aspirations. They began operating from a rented room in the Jagadeesh Building on Court Road, Manjeri, where evenings and weekends were spent in spirited games of carroms, cards, and meaningful conversation. As membership grew, so did the ambition to create a more permanent and dignified space. The members collectively acquired land at the present location and constructed a clubhouse featuring a hall and two rooms, complemented by a Tennis court at the front, a nod to the club’s original sporting spirit.
In the early 1970s, under the visionary leadership of Mr. P.M. Thirumulpad, a respected figure from the Royal family, the club was formally registered under the Societies Act. His dedication, along with the unwavering support of co-founders Late Advocate M.R. Ramanathan and Late Mr. Korambayil Ahmed Haji, ensured the club’s transition from a casual gathering space to a structured institution committed to community enrichment.
